Best Sunscreen for Face in Nags Head

How to Choose the Right SPF for Your Skin Tone

From ebony to ivory, humans have thousands of different skin tones, and each one reacts to the sun’s UV rays differently. At BeachGlo Aesthetics, we help you nourish, enhance, and protect your skin, no matter the tone.

When you pick sunscreen, choosing the right SPF for your skin tone helps protect your unique skin. Today, our providers share how to choose the best sunscreen for the face in Nags Head based on your skin tone.

Understanding Your Skin Tone

First things first—you need to know your skin tone. In medical aesthetics, we use the Fitzpatrick scale to understand how your skin might react to the UV rays emitted by the sun. The skin tone classifications range from I to VI.

Time in the Sun

No matter your skin type, you’ll need some type of sunscreen to keep your skin protected from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

Lower SPFs allow a higher percentage of the sun’s rays to penetrate your skin over time. If you only spend a few minutes in direct sunlight each day, this will not harm your skin. But over the course of a few hours, it could have dramatic impacts.

We typically recommend that no matter what your skin type may be, that you wear a minimum of SPF 30, mineral-based sunscreen to keep your skin protected. The mineral-based sunscreen is ideal for preventing clogged pores while providing immediate protection, but make sure to reapply about every 2 hours, especially if you are in the water or sweating a lot.
