Traditional back hair removal methods are often challenging or even painful. Waxing may irritate the skin or cause ingrown hairs, tweezing is only practical for small areas, and creams can be ineffective. For a modern solution, consider laser back hair removal in Nags Head, NC.
At BeachGlo Aesthetics, we’re confident that our laser hair removal is the best hair removal option out there, but we understand that the subject can be intimidating. Every patient should be informed about their possible treatment options.
Our co-founder, Ben Kershner, CRNA, MS, is here to answer men’s top 10 questions about laser hair removal.
1. Is laser hair removal for men?
Laser body hair removal is beneficial for all Beach Glo Aesthetics patients, regardless of gender.
Our clients choose laser back hair removal in Nags Head, NC, for many reasons. Many men choose laser hair removal to restore their confidence and feel more comfortable and masculine in their bodies by:

2. How does laser hair removal work?
My laser of choice is the Diolaze XL, a high-speed laser that efficiently removes back hair without the risks associated with other hair removal methods. A combination of powerful laser energy and advanced cooling techniques targets hair follicles across a wide range of skin types.
Through a process called selective polythermolysis, the Diolaze laser penetrates the skin and targets hair pigmentation. Individual hair strands convert the light energy into heat, which damages the hair follicle and prevents future hair growth.
Hair needs to be in its anagen stage for our laser back hair removal in Nags Head, NC, to be effective. This is when the hair is actively growing, firmly attached to the hair follicle, and full of melanin. Hair detaches from the follicles during the rest of the hair growth cycle, rendering laser hair removal ineffective.
Hair follicles enter different stages of the growth cycle at different times, which is why I recommend multiple laser sessions to experience the full benefits of our laser back hair removal in Nags Head, NC.
3. Is laser hair removal permanent?
No, laser hair removal is semipermanent, not permanent, but results last longer than traditional hair removal methods.
Our laser back hair removal in Nags Head, NC, effectively removes unwanted body hair and prevents new growth by damaging the hair follicles. However, it isn’t 100% effective, and some hair may regrow.
The duration of your laser hair removal results depends on the number of treatments you receive. Continuous hair growth stops once the growth cycles of every follicle are disrupted, which is why I recommend 5 to 6 sessions to thoroughly treat all unwanted body hair.

4. How long does it take to remove back hair?
Laser back hair removal in Nags Head, NC, takes 30 to 60 minutes per appointment.
I prefer the Diolaze XL because it boasts one of the largest treatment spot sizes. This significantly reduces treatment time for larger areas of the body, such as the back, arms, or legs. Combined with its powerful energy profile, Diolaze XL removes hair faster than other laser hair removal devices or traditional hair removal methods. It also requires fewer maintenance treatments.
5. Where can I remove hair with laser hair removal?
The Diolaze XL safely and efficiently removes hair across the body, including the:
- Face, including the neck, chin, sideburns, and ears
- Arms and underarms
- Abdomen, including the chest, back, and stomach
- Legs and bikini line
Contact my team if you’re considering full-body laser hair removal to schedule a thorough, complementary consultation. Removing body hair is a personal choice. During your consultation, we can discuss how the treatment works, answer any questions, and help you decide if laser hair removal with the Diolaze XL is right for you.
6. Am I eligible for laser hair removal?
Client eligibility for laser hair removal depends on several factors.
Like many laser treatments, men with medium to dark skin tones or lighter hair colors (blonde, strawberry blonde, or ginger) may not be candidates for Diolaze XL. I recommend test patches for patients with medium skin tones or lighter hair colors to confirm eligibility.
Additionally, I do not recommend laser hair removal for patients with a history of keloids, skin cancer, genital herpes, or cold sores, or who are actively taking isotretinoin medications. Men with open cuts, rosacea, or active chronic acne in the treatment area should delay scheduling their appointment for laser back hair removal in Nags Head, NC, until these skin conditions subside.
Unsure of your eligibility? Contact my talented team at BeachGlo Aesthetics to schedule a complimentary consultation. We can help you decide if laser hair removal is the best next step in your aesthetic journey.

7. How do I prepare for laser hair removal?
Prepare your skin before laser back hair removal in Nags Head, NC, and support optimal results by avoiding:
- Excess sun exposure or sunburns 1 week prior to your appointment.
- Waxing, tweezing, or plucking hair 1 week before your laser hair removal session.
- Bleaching your hair immediately before your laser session, as your roots must be dark for the treatment to work.
Additionally, I recommend that men shave their treatment area 2 to 3 days before their appointment and refrain from applying skincare on any targeted areas.
On the day of your appointment, arrive wearing loose clothing over the treatment areas, so I can easily treat the targeted hair.
8. Why should I shave before my appointment?
Laser hair removal does not work on areas where the hair is longer than a grain of rice. Shaving removes hair above the skin’s surface, allowing the laser to target the hair follicles more directly. This encourages more optimal results and reduces the risk of burns. It also reduces the amount of hair that needs to be treated, shortening your time spent in the office.
9. What should I do after a laser hair removal session?
You can return to your normal schedule immediately following an appointment for laser back hair removal in Nags Head, NC.
You may experience mild skin irritation, redness, or swelling for the remainder of the day. I recommend applying a cold compress or pure aloe to the treated area to soothe the skin.
Protecting your skin by avoiding sun exposure for at least 72 hours after your laser hair removal session, and wear SPF 30+ sunscreen, reapplying every 2 hours. Laser hair removal temporarily makes the skin more vulnerable to UV rays, increasing the risk of sunburn, redness, or hyperpigmentation. Minimizing sun exposure protects your skin after treatment as it heals.
Additionally, avoid harsh or exfoliating cleansers for 1 week after your appointment, as these may irritate or damage the sensitive skin.
10. What is a standard laser hair removal appointment like at BeachGlo Aesthetics?
When you arrive at your laser hair removal appointment, I show you to your treatment room and make you comfortable on the treatment bed.
I may ask you to move a piece of your clothing to reach a treatment area, such as lifting your shirt to treat unwanted back or stomach hair, but only to your comfort level. Patients should never feel uncomfortable during a treatment, and I can adjust your care as necessary.
Next, I cleanse the skin of the targeted area and apply a cooling gel to help the Diolase XL device head glide smoothly over the skin, minimizing discomfort.
As the device moves over your skin, you may feel a sensation comparable to a rubber band snapping against the skin, with little to no discomfort. If you experience a burning sensation during your laser hair removal, notify me immediately so I can adjust the device’s settings.
